American tops Delaware in Cable Car Classic final

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Vlad Moldoveanu scored 19 of his season-high 32 points in the first half and American held on to beat Delaware 83-71 in the championship game of the Cable Car Classic on Thursday night. Stephen Lumpkins added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles (9-5), who won for the third time in four games after stumbling earlier this month. Moldoveanu, a first-team All-Patriot League selection last season, went 12 of 20 from the floor while topping the 20-point mark for the eighth time this season and the 17th time in 35 career games. Jawan Carter scored 23 points and Jamelle Hagins added 17 for Delaware (6-5).
