Police: Tampa baby brain dead, punished for playing near electrical outlet

TAMPA — The 16-month-old was playing too close to an electrical outlet when the adult decided to punish him, police said.Now, the Tampa boy has a fractured skull, police said. Brain dead, he is not expected to live.Tampa police say Dwayne Poole, 23, threw the baby on a bed, causing the boy's head to hit either the wall or a dresser.They have not yet released the child's identity or his relationship to Poole.Poole also admitted to hitting the baby with an open hand and belt, which caused bruising on the child's buttocks and legs, police reported.Tampa Fire Rescue took the baby to St. Joseph's Hospital, where doctors determined he had a skull fracture, which caused the brain to bleed, police said.
