Interstate traffic stop leads to arrest of marijuana traffickers

The Sarasota County Sheriff?s Office arrested two men Monday evening after discovering a large amount of marijuana during a traffic stop. A Sheriff?s Office deputy pulled over a car near mile marker 212 on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County. A K-9 deputy arrived on scene a short time later. That?s when the deputy?s canine partner alerted to the presence of drugs. Seven large bundles of marijuana, weighing 175 pounds, were found inside the vehicle. The street value is estimated at over $175,000. The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Lashaun Smith of Sarasota, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana.
