Trenton man sentenced to 9.25 years for manslaughter

Samuel Lane Pittman, 29, of Trenton, was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder for the shooting death of Willie James Ellison, 38, also of Trenton. Pittman was scheduled to go to trial next week for Ellison’s murder but instead entered his no contest plea on Thursday morning to a manslaughter charge.Pittman was sentenced to 9.25 years in prison after Ellison’s relatives said they had forgiven him. Ellison’s body was found June 4, 2008, on the ground nearly three miles east of Gro-More Farm Supply on Tyler Grade outside Trenton.A forensic entomologist estimated that Ellison was most likely killed on May 31 on June 1.
