Airport security to be strengthened in Cambodia

Florida Statesman Sunday 24th April, 2011

Cambodian officials have been determining how to increase security at the nation's airports at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.

Measures were discussed during last week to assess how an airport emergency might be handled.

The meeting was chaired by Kep Chutema, the governor of Phnom Penh, and attended by representatives from government ministries and private individuals who deal with airport management and services.

On March 22 Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a directive for authorities to be ready for any future emergency.

Emergency exercises will now be carried out at the airports in order to be ready for incidents such as terrorism, evacuation, fire fighting, ambulance emergencies and traffic flow.
