Dr. Geng-He Chang from the Department of Otolaryngology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Chiayi, Taiwan, based on years of experience in teaching patients to practice nasal irrigation, and developed a set of nasal irrigation procedures
Chiayi, Taiwan (Merxwire) -УТ The use of saline to "wash the nose" has a long history. It is an ancient way to clean the nasal cavity and is also an effective adjuvant treatment that many clinical studies have confirmed. It can help patients with rhinitis and sinusitis improve their symptoms and reduce the frequency of recurrence; however, the process of nasal irrigation often causes discomfort to the patient. A comfortable treatment process can increase patient acceptance and improve treatment effectiveness. Therefore, Dr. Geng-He Chang from the Department of Otolaryngology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Chiayi, Taiwan, based on years of experience in teaching patients to practice nasal irrigation, and developed a set of nasal irrigation procedures that people can easily use and accept as a way to clean the nasal cavity on a daily basis, which is called "NASOCLEAN", making this process of nasal irrigation very comfortable pleasant! The implementation and know-how of the special method are as follows:
How can we overcome the frightening initial shock of water ingress?Geng-He Chang, MD
Dr. Geng-He Chang indicated that after the first nasal irrigation, most users feel good, but they will feel hesitant about the next practice, mainly because of the discomfort caused by water rushing into the nasal cavity at the beginning when nasal irrigation and many people will stop at this step and then give up this treatment. Therefore, Dr. Chang developed a technique to help user overcome this problem, the УЂтЌХinitial shock of water ingress. The way is after the nozzle of a nasal washer is close to the nostril (Figure 1), УЂтЌХalign it with the side wall of the nostril (Figure 2)". When the warm water is flushed into the nasal cavity, it will slide in from the side wall first, which can significantly reduce the impact. When the warm water flows out from the other nostril, then slowly return the nozzle to the correct position to increase the flow rate (Figure 3). With this technique, the most troublesome problem in the nasal irrigation process can be effectively solved.

How to avoid earache caused after nasal irrigation?Taiwanese otolaryngologist Geng-He Chang said that after washing the nose, put the device on the table first, and use toilet paper to blow the nose gently and try not to blow the nose vigorously. Blowing the nose vigorously is often the main cause of earache. Because the increased pressure in the nasal cavity can cause irritation in the Eustachian tube; then gently press on both sides of the nose, one side at a time, and blow the nose with small force, so as not to cause excessive pressure in the nasal cavity and cause discomfort in the Eustachian tube.
The general public can refer to the tips taught in the figures provided by Dr. Chang, and with a little practice, the most uncomfortable initial shock during the nasal irrigation can be greatly reduced. The nasal irrigation process will become comfortable and stress-free, and even a kind of enjoyment, so that the daily cleansing of the nose can become a part of daily life like brushing teeth, reducing the accumulation of duct, allergen and inflammatory secretions in the nasal cavity throughout the day.
