Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his throwing thumb, ESPN reported Thursday.
X-rays taken after the team's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers last week revealed the damage, per the report.
Minshew had been dealing with discomfort in the thumb since the team's Oct. 11 game at Houston. However, the Jaguars said they didn't know about Minshew's injury until this week, according to ESPN.
The Jaguars (1-6) have a bye this week. They have lost six straight and will host the Texans in Week 9. Minshew's status for that game is unclear, per the report.
Minshew, 25, has started every game this season, throwing for 1,855 yards and 13 touchdowns against five interceptions. He has completed 65.9 percent of his passes.
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone reportedly was contemplating benching Minshew in favor of veteran Mike Glennon ahead of the team's game against the Chargers.
