The Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers will have a quick turnaround in the finale of their two-game series on Wednesday.
The opener featured just one run but it took 11 innings and was delayed prior to the seventh inning by inclement weather for nearly two hours. The game ended close to midnight ET on a walkoff double by the Tigers' Derek Hill.
The teams return to Detroit's home field for a 1:10 p.m. matinee.
Detroit is 33-31 against teams currently at or above .500.
"This is a nice reminder that we can win any day's game," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. "We've got one here in about 12 hours that we're going to dial it up again and try to beat this team again before they leave town. It's not easy but if you want to play with the big boys, you've got to play like the big boys. That's kind of what we're trying to do against good teams."
Milwaukee saw its five-game winning streak snapped. It will try once again to notch its 90th win and 50th road victory of the season.
The teams combined for just seven hits on Tuesday and the Brewers' pitchers rang up 18 strikeouts. The Tigers had five pitchers combine on their shutout.
"We had a lot of guys do a lot of good things," Hinch said. "It doesn't feel like it in a 1-0 game. There's not a lot of action but there was a lot of big-time pitching."
Milwaukee's starter on Wednesday, Brandon Woodruff (9-8, 2.48 ERA), hasn't pitched since he gave up a season-high three home runs in his last outing on Sept. 6. Overall, the right-hander allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings during a 12-0 loss to Philadelphia.
Woodruff was supposed to pitch over the weekend but an illness forced manager Craig Counsell to give him a few extra days to recover.
In his last two August starts, Woodruff gave up just one run in a combined 12 innings while striking out 18 against San Francisco and Cincinnati.
During his career, Woodruff has only faced Detroit once, when he tossed two innings of scoreless relief in 2018.
Matt Manning (3-6, 6.14) will get the start for Detroit. The righty's last start was cut short after three innings when he was hit on the knee by a line drive. Manning gave up one run on four hits in that outing at Pittsburgh last Wednesday.
In his last home outing, Manning was pounded for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings by Oakland on Sept. 2. The Tigers are 6-8 in the 14 games in which the rookie right-hander has started.
Brewers outfielder Avisail Garcia left Tuesday's game with lower back spasms.
"He's just got some back stiffness," Counsell said. "He won't be in the lineup tomorrow but it's nothing serious."
The Brewers' offense scored double digits in runs on three occasions during the five-game streak but it was punchless on Tuesday. They only had four hits, all singles, and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
"We weren't that good offensively tonight," Counsell said.
